United Nations Peacekeeping
It is not a nation. It has no standing army. And, yet, the United Nations has more experience with war and peace than any nation on the planet. For more than 50 years, the world body has been sending multi-national peacekeeping forces to monitor and, in some cases, forcefully keep the peace. From Kosovo to Burundi, Cambodia to Haiti, there have been celebrated successes and not forgotten failures. As globalization increases our political and economic interdependence, with world tensions on the rise, a new spotlight has focused on world’s largest experiment in international cooperation.
