Gun Show Background Check Act of 2001 - 2001/1/1
This act amends "The Brady Bill" to include instant background checks at gun shows. Gun shows were not included in the original bill. The bill also requires that any gun sales made at these shows must be reported to the government within ten days of the sale.

The Brady Bill - 1993/11/30
The "Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act" was signed by President Clinton on November 30, 1993. The bill requires licensed gun dealers to wait in most circumstances five (5) days - before selling a gun to an individual. During that time, the dealer must contact the local police, who then
perform a background check to make sure there is no legal reason for the person to be denied a gun. A denial could be issued for a number of reasons including the fact that the person (1) is a fugitive from justice; (2) suffers from certain types of mental illness; or (3) is not in the country legally.
